Can I Look Up an Ohio Water Well Log?

Here's how you can find an Ohio water well log online.

Yes, you can. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has made all the well logs in Ohio available online through their website.

Searching is complicated if you do not know how to navigate the DNR's complex search engine. They updated the site in 2022 and it went from hard to use to impossible to get results. It was so difficult that I called the DNR water well office and had the "Well Geek" (he is, and he is proud of it!) explain to me how to do a search so I could share the information with the community.

Follow our simple instructions for immediate success.

  1. Go to waterwells.ohiodnr.gov
  2. Select ‘Classic Search’ and then ‘Custom Search’
  3. Enter: 1) County 2) Street Number 3) Street Name
  4. Scroll to the bottom and click ‘Submit Custom Search’

There can be multiple well logs for a property. This is typical when one has been replaced or the first drilled well did not produce water. If you cannot find records for a property of interest, try looking for an alternative spelling of the street name. Technicians are not always the best spellers.
