5 Fast & Easy Ways to Cause Termite Damage to Your Home

Termites can cause major structural damage to your home if you create the right environment for them to flourish.

The following are 5 guaranteed ways to invite termites into your home.

  1. Termites love dead wood so stack it right next to your house and pile it high and as close as possible to the house. Dead trees and landscaping ties are sure to invite termites into your yard and give them plenty to eat for years.
  2. Mulch is wood and termites love wood so pile it high around the foundation of your home. The deeper the pile of mulch, the better chance you will have at getting these little wood eaters to feast on your home.
  3. Create super highways for the wood destroying insects to get on the roof of your home by letting your trees hang over the roof. Also, let shrubs and weeds grow up against the side of the house creating direct access to the tasty wood in your home.
  4. Do not perform maintenance and clean the gutters or fix broken or disconnected downspouts. Clogged gutters leads to the roof wood getting wet which creates the perfect environment for termites.  Damaged downspouts allow large amounts of water to pool at the base of the house. Combine this with large amounts of mulch and you will be on the fast track to termite damage.
  5. Fixing leaking pipes or traps under the sink will only slow down the process of termite infestation. For best results, allow all the wood in the area to become moist and rotted. The bigger the leak the better!
For fastest results, combine all 5 strategies listed above.
