Here are 4 things you should do prior to starting
up your
AC to ensure proper operation and efficiency.
Remove Obstructions

Failing to trim back plants regularly could cost you more than just the beauty of your home. One of the easiest ways we have to keep our energy bills low is to keep the plants away from the air conditioner. Trim bushes, cut the grass and pull any weeds because the ones we leave behind restrict air flow to your unit causing higher energy bills and a shorter equipment life. The recommended distance between landscaping and your air conditioner is 24 inches.
Clean Outdoor Coil

Cleaning your air conditioner's condenser coils regularly will let your air conditioner run cooler with less energy and make you feel more comfortable. The easiest way to do this is to turn your garden hose handle to flood and spray down the outside coils. Do not use high pressure!
Change Air Filter Regularly

Changing furnace and return air filters is critical to the proper performance of your HVAC system, not to mention your home's air quality. Studies show that indoor air pollution is one of the top five environmental health risks! How often you change the filter has several different factors but a great rule of thumb is to change them bi-monthly. Consult you AC manufacture manual for filter type and recommendations.
Change Thermostat Batteries

You should change the batteries in your thermostat at least once a year or if you get a low battery indication. The thermostat will not operate your AC or control temperature with dead batteries.
